Description
Markha Valley is one of the most famous treks of Ladakh region. It is an amazing trip to get introduced with magical and remote Buddhist Kingdom of Ladakh. While trekking on through this trek, tourists pass through beautiful Buddhist Monasteries, Mountain Villages, high altitude pastures of Nimaling and the high altitude peak Kangyatse.
Stok Kangri (elevation 6,137 m (20,135 feet) is the highest mountain in the Stok Range of the Himalayas in the Ladakh region of northwest India. The peak is located in Hemis National Park, 12 km southwest of the trailhead at 3,610 m (11,845 feet) in the village of Stok and 24 km southwest of the Ladakhi capital of Leh. Despite its altitude, Stok Kangri is a popular peak and is often climbed as an initial non-technical foray into high altitude mountaineering.
Day 1. Drive Leh-Chilling and trek to Sku (3366 mtrs) 4-5 hrs.
Morning after breakfast you will drive Leh to Chilling with the drive of 2 hours. At the starting you will find a interesting and adventures to crossing Tully. Here you need to cross Zangskar River with a cable car of Tully. And we have to change the horses too. Because the horses cannot cross the other side of River. The staffs will transfer all the luggage by tully. And the trek starts with some up and downs. You will enjoy the landscape and scenery. After noon you will Reach Sku via Kaya Overnight in Camp
Day 2. Sku to Markha 3760 mtr. 6 hrs
From Skiu, follow a good path on the right bank of Markha where one can find great vegetation. Then cross right bank of river and cross through barren plain and arrive at Chaluk. Thereafter walk along the left bank of river and after another crossing climb towards Markha village. Good camp site beyond the Village and near river. Overnight in camp..
Day 3. Markha to Hankar 4030 . 5 hrs
Morning after breakfast start trekking to reach Hankar village. Overnight in camp.
Day 4. Hankar to Nimaling 4841 mtr, 6 hrs
After breakfast start trekking to reach Nimaling. Nimaling (4841 M) has a sweeping pasture where thousands of sheep, goats, yaks and graze during the summer months, rising to the south is 6400 M high Kang Yatse (Nimaling Peak), a lovely mountain, but not an easy one to climb, Overnight in tents.
Day 5. Nimaling to Chokdo 3905 mtr via Kongmarula 5260 mtrs 6 hrs
After breakfast start trekking to reach Kongmaru La (5260 M). The trek to Kongmaru la passes through narrow Gorges. At the top of the pass, you can have view of the Ladakh range and the villages of the Indus valley to the north is excellent. Cross the pass and proceed to Chokdoo.
Day 6. Chokdo to Shangphu. 4374 mts. 5.5 hrs
Continue your trek along the valley of Shangphu, You will cross Shang village. It will be a easy day Trek.
Day 7. Shangphu to Ganpoche 4428 mtr. 5 hrs
Continue your trek to reach Ganpoche , It will a trek along a nerrow valley.
Day 8. Ganpoche to Manikarmo 4380 mtr. 6 hrs.
Continue your trek toward Manikarmo. It is possible to see somewild animal like Ibex, Snowpeopard etc on the way
Day 9. Mankorma - Base Camp (4900 m): 4/5 hrs
We make an early start and reach base camp with still most of the day to rest. We have lunch and then take a short climb from base camp to better acclimatise. We climb a further 100 m and then come back down again to get an early night in preparation for tomorrow's summit attempt. Overnight at the camp.
Day 10. Base Camp - Stok Kangri (6150 m) - Base Camp (5000 m): 8 hrs
We start climbing in the early hours of the morning to avail of the best weather conditions and a possible sunrise at the summit. First we climb onto a ridge which leads to a large glacier. After crossing the glacier we ascend steeply to the summit. This last leg is the most difficult and takes a lot of physical and mental strength. The panoramic view from the summit is second to none. To the north-west the Karakoram Range, including K2 (8611 m), seems endless. One can also see the Zanskar Range and view Tibet in the distance, an outstanding vista of snow-capped peaks. Overnight at the camp.
Day 11. Base Camp - Stok village - Leh (3500 m): 8 hrs
From base camp we descend all the way to Stok village. This is a great walk passing by numerous ruins of old forts and castles. It takes about six hours to reach Stok village where we are met by waiting vehicles. We then drive two hours back to Leh enjoy a meal and some well earned drinks at the hotel. Overnight in the Hotel.
